Check out this little guy. I found him  sunning on my roof the other day. Real cute. When I walked into my room and looked out the window he had his head down like he was sleeping. Actually, at first I thought the worst… dead squirrel carcass on my rooftop. Not good. Eventually he saw me. We made eye contact and at one point I think he smiled.

Now…  this would all be swell, me making a new friend and all, if it weren’t for the fact that these adorable, furry creatures have basically turned my backyard into what looks like a tossed salad. A few hosta leaves here, the stem of an Astilbe plant there with a few shasta daisy heads tossed in as a garnish. My yard has a long way to go on its own without the neighborhood rodents burying holes in any exposed the soil. Shee-it even the unexposed area looks like the top of someone’s head (mine?) after unsuccessfully trying to pull all of their hair out. All that remains of the “lawn” are big clumps of thick wavy grass. A patchwork of what might have been. It’s hard to believe these cute little fellas (and to be fair the raccoons must take some of the blame) can wreak so much havoc and have the most soft spoken person cursing up a storm.

Anyway… What can I do? I did not step ouside all day yesterday and hope the few plants they haven’t touched are still standing. I made a huge dent in the cupboard/pantry reorganization project yesterday though but by about 5pm my eyes started twirling. Talk about squirrely. I think it’s time for me get some fresh air.
