This summer, despite having much less time then I did last year, I’ve decided to attempt making my backyard an oasis. The space has so much potential. It’s not easy, though, since I have no idea what I’m doing but I’ve reached the point where I’m feeling, hey, if that design doesn’t work, this plant dies, or (which seems be happening way too often), a racoon grabs that beautiful plant I just bought and planted and rips it right out of the ground… I’m going to be okay. I’ve always been too afraid to dig in for fear of messing it up more than it already is (hm, sounds familiar) but after reaching a certain age, as I did yesterday, there is really no excuse but to dig in. And the best part is, with each mistake and every fully blooming flower I seem to learn more about what it is I’ve set out to do. And really, you’ve got to love that. I certainly do.
